I'll be honest — neckbands are not the cool kid in 2026. TWS rules the market, and every brand is pushing earbuds. So when I picked up the Boult W20, I wasn't expecting much. What I found was a surprisingly capable daily driver that does the one thing neckbands still do better than TWS: stay on your neck when you're not using them. The 30-hour battery claim held up in my testing, the bass is exactly what Boult promises (loud, proud, slightly aggressive), and the IPX5 rating actually means something — I ran in the rain with these and they survived.

Design & Build

The neckband is a flexible rubber-coated band with metal weights at the ends where the battery and controls live. The whole thing weighs about 28g, which feels almost weightless once it's around your neck. The rubber is soft enough that you can ball it up and stuff it in a pocket, but firm enough that it springs back to shape.

The inline remote is on the right side and has three buttons: volume up, volume down (which doubles as track skip with a long press), and a multi-function button in the middle for play/pause, call answer, and voice assistant. The buttons have decent tactile feedback — you can find them by feel without looking.

The earbuds themselves are magnetic, which is a small but important detail. When you take them out of your ears, they snap together and hang around your neck like a pendant. No more dropping them, no more losing them. This is the killer feature of neckbands that TWS still can't match.

Sound Quality

Boult's tuning philosophy is "make it fun." The W20 has boosted bass (especially sub-bass), slightly recessed mids, and treble that's present but not piercing. It's the kind of sound that makes Bollywood dance tracks hit hard and EDM feel like a workout.

The 12mm drivers do a respectable job of keeping the bass tight rather than muddy. I tested with a range of tracks — from soft acoustic to heavy metal — and the W20 handled each competently within its tuning. It's not a neutral earphone for studio work, but it's not trying to be.

AAC codec support means better quality on iPhones and recent Android devices. There's no LDAC or aptX, but at this price that's not a complaint.

Call Quality

The single mic with ENC works well for indoor calls. Outdoor calls are where it shows its limits — wind noise is a problem, and traffic noise gets through. I tested it on a busy market street and had to repeat myself twice. For an occasional call from a quiet cafe, it's fine. For daily outdoor use, you'll want to switch to your phone.

Battery Life

This is the W20's strongest feature. Boult claims 30 hours; I got 24-26 hours at 60-70% volume with mixed music and calls. That's enough for a full work week of commutes on a single charge. The Fast Charge feature is genuinely useful — 10 minutes plugged in gives about 10 hours of playback. I tested this from a near-dead state and it held up.

USB-C charging is a welcome sight. The previous Boult neckbands I tested used Micro USB, which felt dated even two years ago.

Connectivity & Latency

Bluetooth 5.3 with standard SBC/AAC. Pairing is straightforward. The 60ms Combat Gaming Mode is a noticeable improvement for gaming — BGMI felt responsive, though not quite as tight as wired audio. For video streaming, the audio sync is fine in normal mode (you won't notice lag).

Range is standard — about 8-10 meters with one wall. I walked into another room with my phone on the table and stayed connected.

Water Resistance

IPX5 is genuinely useful — it means the neckband can handle sustained low-pressure water jets. I ran in light rain with it and it survived. I wouldn't submerge it, but sweat and rain are not a concern.

The bass is heavy, the mic is average outdoors, but the value at ₹799 is hard to argue with. If you've been holding on to an older neckband and want a fresh upgrade, this is a sensible pick.
